If you like my romance stories, here's another one for you.  But it's not finished yet so if you hate reading unfinished romance stories then you probably shouldn't read it. But other than that, I think it has potential to be a good story when I get around to it.  There's so many things on my plate right now that I don't have the time to get to it yet.  Thanks for your patience and understanding.  Afterall, this site is free--and you can't expect me to not eat in order to write more romance stories although it's a hobby/joy to for my readers.

Genie of Seduction

By Katherine Ly

The sky grew dark as storm clouds rolled in.  Thunder and lightning followed briskly.  Tara hurried to her car.  Tara, wait.”  Her cousin Emma chased her to the car, her hand clutching a box under her jacket and feet sloshing through water and mud.

“Emma, what is it?  Hey, watch that puddle over there.”  Tara paused at the side of her car, studying her petite and studious cousin with the dark rimmed glasses and her hair blown wild by the wind.

Tara had thanked everyone for coming but didn’t stop to talk to anyone in particular since she didn’t know her father’s friends or acquaintances that well.  She didn’t feel like dealing with anyone right now.  She just wanted to be left alone.

“I’m really sorry about your father.  While you were away on that business trip, he must have felt ill because he left this box for my safekeeping and asked that I give it to you if something should happen.”  Emma went on quickly without stopping for breath.

Tara leaned forward to kiss Emma’s wet cheek.  “Thank you.  I’ll be fine.  I’ll call you later.”  She took the box and opened the car door.   Her cousin waved as Tara drove away.

It’s been a week since the funeral.   Work had been hectic and she was constantly tired barely sleeping at night.  Tara only took two days off work since an important meeting was coming up and she could ill afford not to be thoroughly prepared.  She had almost forgotten about the box with so much going on.

She slowly opened the box and gasped at the small object tucked inside layers of tissue paper.

A beautiful silver lamp the size of my palm with gold trims and weird looking symbols captured my attention.  It looked ancient and a few scratches were visible on the bottom.  This was the last lamp she would get from Dad, there was hope in her heart as it beat wildly and urged her to rub it.  Tara took a deep breath and rubbed it slowly and carefully three times.  Nothing.  A few minutes passed by and then still nothing happened.

An obsession was all that it was-with lamps and Genies after watching the Disney movie Aladdin.  Dad would indulge that obsession by buying me lamp after lamp at the flea market.  But it was a disappointment each time as I stood there rubbing and waiting as nothing happened.  Eventually I grew out of it but my apartment is packed full of lamps of all shapes and sizes in boxes as I think about my father fondly.

“Oh, Dad.  There are no such things as Genies.  I’m a big girl now.”  She whispered to the air barely holding back tears.  He didn’t have to try to keep his promise.  She understood.

It was hard falling asleep that night after the events of the last week caught up to her.  The ache in her heart of missing her father was deep.   She was closed to him since her mother had passed away when she was only two and left her feeling so alone.  Tara was an only child.  And the air in the apartment seemed unusually thick all of a sudden and it was almost difficult to breathe.

Maybe some water or warm milk would do her good Tara decided.  She got up and stumbled around, tired and weary when her head smacked into something or someone.  She rubbed her tired eyes startled when a strange voice spoke to her with a slight accent.
