Rick invaded her thoughts the next morning just after that cup of coffee woke her up.
Damnit Rick. Just like a guy to make sure you’re halfway fallen heads over heels for him and then leaves you hanging. Well, maybe that was a lie. Erika knew she was more than halfway crazy for him, and the sex was amazing. He was also extremely funny and wonderful to be around. Oh Gosh, I’ve never knew it could be that good. A repeat session wouldn’t be a bad idea if she knew precisely where he is and that he isn’t running from her. How can he not like her?
Oh, she had almost forgotten the online dating site. Were there other replies to her personal ad? Better go check. Maybe Rick wrote to her again on the website, although her mind said that was highly doubtful if he didn’t bother to call.
After replying to any urgent emails from clients, and checking her phone messages Erika logged in to the dating site. Wow. Unbelieveable! Seventy-one total guys wrote to her during the last 4 days. Maybe her friend was right—that this Internet Dating thing is very popular. Erika munched on her Krispy Kreme doughnut while checking the faxes for the papers for the Maxwell file. Maybe she’ll read the replies during lunch. She was too “strict” on herself to be doing personal things on company time even though she worked way past five on most days and went far beyond her job duties to help out the other accountants when they struggled with the workload. She had her own office and no one would know, but still…she would know.
Lunch consisted of a tuna sandwich, and browsing through the replies to her personal ad hunched over behind her computer. Most of the replies were one or two sentences long. Some requested a picture. And one of the replies called her very direct and a slut, and asked if she did every guy that wrote to her on the dating site. It stung, just a bit. But she knew she was not like that, and that’s all that matters. There were a few that did stand out.
Tempting replies, albeit a little late (since my mind and body is still screaming for Rick).
Erika decided that she would visit Moonlight Way, the bar that Rick had taken her to the very first evening they had met. She could have a few drinks there and think about what happened or what went wrong. She waved to Toby the bartender, then decided that to hell with her pride, and approached him to ask if he had seen Rick to which he replied he hadn’t since that other night.
